These wild grapes are found in closed tropical woodland and open woodland, often beside waterways. The grapes are produced on a climbing vine, which tends to scramble over other vegetation, particularly trees. The leaves have serrated edges and are grouped in a trifoliate structure. Opposite each leaf structure there is a climbing tendril. From February to April bunches of grape-like fruit are produced. These bunches have been recorded up to 1kg in weight. Initially the fruit is round and green in colour. Mature grapes are dark purple and flattish in shape. Each grape has one small seed.
