The Morinda is always found close to the coastline in tropical areas. Often it looks more like a bush than a tree and is generally low set with large, broad, glossy green leaves. These leaves grow opposite each other. The flowers are small, white and sweet-scented. The fruit is elongated in shape, with irregular depressions on the outer surface. Fruit turn from green to whitish-yellow when fully ripe. The Morinda appears to produce fruit throughout the year. The fruit is quite unmistakable, with a translucent flesh, many brown seeds and a powerful aroma similar to rancid cheese.
