The seeds of the Spinifex were collected at times and ground into a paste and cooked on open coals. Some Spinifex species produced a resin when pounded up and heated over a fire. This dark coloured resin was used by Aboriginal people as a form of glue fixing spear heads to the spear shaft. When warm it is pliable, a bit like putty, but when it dries out it sets rock hard. When set on fire, Spinifex creates a dark smoke which is excellent as a signal fire. The Spinifex in bulk makes an excellent shade cover and many bow . . .
