A lot of people think that the common Puff Ball is poisonous but that is not the case. In fact it is quite edible and it can be found throughout Australia all through the year depending on seasonal conditions. Most often its appearance is in connection with recent rainfall. It prefers open well fertilised areas of ground. Only fresh pure white Puff Balls should be eaten. When fresh, Puff Balls are light sensitive and will quickly start to change colour to a brown internal yellow when broken open and exposed to sunlight.
