The tree is found in a variety of environments throughout Northern Australia, most often in association with the coastal regions. It tends to grow in well drained sandy soils. The tree can reach over 15 metres in height, and often has a sparse appearance. During the months of Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec, it produces attractive seed pods which when ripe, split open, and reveal a bright orange/red interior lining.
