A distinctive tree, common in closed and open tropical woodland in northern Australia; the Cocky Apple has twisted branches, oval-shaped leaves and elegant flowers. From October until the end of April it produces attractive pink and white tasselled flowers, which wither and drop to the ground within a few hours of sunrise. The broad green leaves turn to orange and red as they age. The greenish fruit is shaped like a lemon, with an unusual green 'whisker' projecting from one end.
