The Cairns Fan Palm is found in the Close Tropical Woodland and the Tropical Rainforest areas.The fronds of the palm are very distinctive with their almost circler fan-like appearance. The terminal bud or cabbage of the palm is edible, however this necessitates destroying the tree and is therefore not recommended except in an extreme emergency situation. At the base of the palm fronds is a hessian like wrapping. (See above) This location is often used by birds for nesting and is worth investigating for eggs.
